Sicilian Wine Used In Cooking

As delicious as it is, spaghetti is a fairly easy meal to make. Put it in a pot of boiling water, add a dash of salt, and you're basically done. From there, you can add any veggies or additions you want. But why cook pasta in water when you can cook it in wine? Yes, wine!

A video showing how to make Red Wine Spaghetti recently went viral on Facebook, and it's easy to see why. Allegedly, the dish tastes incredible. Not only that, but the ingredients you need are ones you probably already have—olive oil, garlic, crushed red pepper, walnuts, Parmesan, and, of course, spaghetti and red wine.

First, boil a full bottle of red wine and then some in a saucepan. (You can use any dry red wine, like Cabernet Sauvigion or Pinor Noir.) Also add about 5 cups of water before you put the pasta in. From there, cook the spaghetti al dente. As you're making the dish, you'll notice the noodles change colors, resulting in spaghetti that resembles the whole-wheat variety.

Drain the pasta and save about 1/4 cup of the cooking liquid. In a skillet, throw in the garlic, salt, and pepper. Add the leftover liquid and 1/4 cup more of wine, letting it simmer. Now you can add the pasta until the liquid has almost absorbed pasta. Top with the remaining liquid, and serve warm.

The end result should look like this. Wowza!
